Things I remember...

Great site!  Oranjemund was a great place to grow up and I wish I could have the same for my child but as you know, finding a town like it anywhere else is almost impossible.  Here are a few things I remember about Oranjemund:

-Rollerskating Rink! (skating with the girls while Kylie Minogue / Rick Astley music blasted from the speakers!)
-Penny Farthing Video Shop!
-Mr Bosman (was that his name?) used to drive around in that yellow mazda 323
-Running through the alleys from the security late at night with Kelvin / Steven Linekar / Donald Bell / Marc Harding / Wesley Davids - we were naughty buggers!
-Those red vienna's!
-The Rec club!
-Occasionally having a gemsbok eating the grass while you play in the park (people never believe me when I tell them that they used to walk though town)
-The GoKart races
-the Tank park

so much more!

Bossie Bosman, the traffic cop...... man he caught us behind the shop with all our underage drinking, confiscated everything and then took all the booze back to his place for a braai.....

Shane.....i agree great memories boet, donald bell and i have been chased many a time ...we would ditch our bikes and head into the alleys then into the bush near 16th ave...they could never get us!!

Omund was awesome to grow up in i remember if i wanted to play golf or go horse riding i would stand at seven sisters[think thats what the rocks were called] and anyone driving by would stop if on their way and would give you a lift[horse kit /golf clubs/even fishing rods]..real safe haven to grow up.

i live in london and i try to explain to people the space and freedom i had and they cannot grasp it.....

as for the roller rink...loved those evenings as if you could skate the girls would hold your hand and trust you to get them roun d giving you points with the blokes..hahaaa

Chalk drawing in the road btw hooter and sundown
Hopscotch, skipping, Elastic jumping game, Tennis ball in stocking
Semi precious stones everywhere, Sand roses, Sand hardening and cracking like a crust after rain or mist
Slide shows (in cine club and home)
Flamingos at the river mouth, Lagoon at the beach, Scum from waves rolling down the beach

Olive trees down 5th avenue, Apple trees in 7th ave alley
Curbs being painted before visits from bigwigs
Big puddle behind the Anglican Church
My hair turning green after swimming
Pitted wooden floor of old library
Turning on taps and not getting water
Window displays at shopping centre
Eating burgers at café after swim training before going home for supper
Remembrance Day and someone always fainted
