Fresh from his most recent tour of New Zealand, Australia and New Caledonia with the Johnny Clegg band, as well as appearances at a number of high profile jazz events in South Africa, Dan Shout is delighted to have the opportunity to pay an all-too-rare visit to the town he regards as home.   Even better is the fact that he will be bringing his highly regarded jazz quartet, SHOUT, with him.  The group will be performing a wide selection of jazz standards, as well as original material from their past, and forthcoming, CD releases.  Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy a couple of hours of top quality jazz with one of South Africa's foremost jazz ensembles.

Pleased to see the Little Theatre is still in use and impressed by how the entry prices have been kept low. They compare more than favourably with ticket prices in the old days.

Good one, Oranjemund!

Does anyone know if the graffiti (names of plays, casts and crews etc) are still in place on backstage walls of the old dressing rooms? It was a tradition at the after show party to paint up a record of each play.

Hi Bob ~ Having been involved in the Players' for well over 20 years, I can assure you that we've done our best to preserve the "graffiti" you refer to, appreciating how important it is to the history, and ethos, of that fine establishment.  Having said that, much of the ink of the earlier scribblings has faded badly and later generations have "over-written" earlier work.   There have been structural changes to the Theatre in recent years which have impacted on the backstage areas.  I guess it's inevitable that these little patches of history will slowly disappear.  Now that you've brought it up, I will make a point of taking photographs of what remains, for posterity!

Thanks for that piece of history, Pete. At one stage the Little Theatre was a big focal point for community activity. Whatever pics you can post would be much appreciated.

The Poster for tonight's gig....

The more I think about it, the more I have to take my hat off to Dan the Man..... here's a hometown boy, that's made it onto the international stage, yet still knows his roots. N$20  bucks a ticket, what a bargain..... no airs and graces..... just a pile of shots at the pub.... unlike a very big ex Springbok player that forgot his roots...

I think that tonight shall be a blast...... support this....

Yup, the Shouts spent several hours at the border trying to sort it out but no joy.

An acclaimed international artist comes all this way to give back to the community that he grew up in and......well....never mind!

Feel the same way Sean, If there was no charge for tickets, but rather a "donation" bowl, would a work permit be necessary ?

What if the band just came a played informally in say Pete's garden for a birthday party? Them what? The piper that came to play at my father;s funeral never needed a work permit.....

Hi Mike

Thanks very much for your enthusiasm, support and kind words, all of which is highly appreciated.

Just to put the "hassles at the border" sequence into context, the actual problem lay with the agency which Dan used to procure visas for the band (this, obviously, does not apply to him as he is Permanent Resident).  There were all sorts of inefficiences and admin botch-ups with this agency but I won't bore you with those details!  Our local Immigration officials were sympathetic and obliging but their hands were tied  ~ they could not act unilaterally in the absence of the work visas which, incidentally, had been applied for six weeks prior to the visit.

Be that as it may, the visas did arrive by fax at about 5:00 pm on Friday evening so the entire "show" got back on the road, albeit a day later than intended.  Dan's trip has been extremely successful and I'm sure you'll hear more about it this evening!

Great evening Just back
Thanks All
