OPPS SPRING FESTIVAL THANK YOU

I want to extend an enormous gigantic THANK YOU to all of you for making our OPPS Spring Festival such a huge success.  I have witnessed so many acts of kindness, sacrifice and commitment towards the children and community of Oranjemund, it makes me rather emotional.  Never before in my own corporate career prior to joining the mining sector have I experienced such a willingness to give, to share, to care.

The teachers of OPPS are truly one of a kind, never tiring, always smiling and so passionate about making a difference while walking a path of exceptional education with every little one.  To all the businesses who contributed so generously, especially Spar who just gave and gave and gave giving sacrifice to profit for us, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  To all the teachers of OPS who have long done their duty and fulfilled their obligations to OPPS and who all have tremendous commitment to their own school, but who volunteer to come back each time to help, bless you !  To ALL the parents who have given so much of their own precious time and for their individual contributions to the benefit often not for their own children, but for others, thank you.  To the 2012 PTA this year, what a privilege to be able to work with each one of you and to be able to give back to such a wonderful school, one which will be the foundation of our children's lives and then to the children of OPS, what a shining example you have set for the little ones, your politeness, kindness and keenness to help is testament to the values instilled in you all, thank you.

A special thanks to Spar, Bank Windhoek, Lewis, Dragon Fly Framing, Pupkewitz, Street House, The Kitchen, Dawn Watt (donating the wheelbarrow), Projects (Fernando da Rocha and his Team), Katherine Schuster for painting wheelbarrow, Woolworths, Furnmart and Wolfi Teichert.

Yours in community

INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEAN-UP DAY FEEDBACK

<<coastal cleanup luderitz.pdf>> <<coastal cleanup oranjemund.pdf>>

On Saturday 15 September the Oranjemund community came together to participate in International Coastal Clean-up Day.  Approximately 370 people gathered to clean the desert at the entrance to Oranjemund, the desert beside OPS and at the beach and river area.  The amount of waste collected was staggering, with about 350 bags being filled and numerous big items being loaded onto volunteers' bakkies and trailers.  Bottles and broken glass were amongst the items most collected, followed closely by plastic bags and packaging.  We still do not seem to understand that our waste, if not disposed of correctly, not only affects the environment negatively, but also compromises our health.

Always Remember:  Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

On the same day the Lüderitz community, including the Namdeb's Northern Coastal management team and their families, participated in the coastal cleanup campaign. About 300 bags of trash with an estimated weight of 12 tons were collected. During the cleanup Namdeb Northern Coastal provided two buses to transport participating school kids to the different beaches around Lüderitz. The event ended with few refreshments at the beach and lunch at the Lüderitz town council.

Clean-ups alone can't solve the debris problem; we need to stop it at the source

A big thank you to the participants, sponsors and contributors:  without you this event could not have taken place!
