Wow! Nice photo's. Not long ago my parents said they wonder what happened to their good friend Pierre. Any chance you could pass his contact detail on to me?

I remember the power station from arrival in 1953 until we installed the "new" Mirlees engines around 1972. Stan Colclough was the guy who was imported to do the installation and what facinated me was that he could torque up those massive bolts with only a hammer and spanner, simply by listening to the "ring" tone. Frank Quirk would remember the thrill when those machines were started up.

ref pic 769 [ 4] I copy it here . Reminds me of an accident in the late 70's . Some Ovambo's , after having a party ,  borrowed a land rover at North Hostel , to visit firends at 2 plant hostel. since they were in a hurry , they took the haul road - just to meet a 769 en route . They were all killed in the accident .

Mike Stenson (RIP)

The vehicle in the pic could be a land-rover, there are pieces of fiberglass lying all over the the road, land-rovers had fiberglass tops.

Did'nt Bob Molloy have a tale about such an incident... somewhere in the basement of the forum....

I'm still embarassed about that, all these years later. It was an encounter with a bulldozer which, believe it or not, was travelling in reverse!
