On a walk down to the glorious river mouth a few weeks ago, I came across an unusual sight.

The might Orange river mouth had been reduced to almost a trickle..... from the gallant 100m wide mouth to a mere stream of close on 10m..... the mouth is now deep within the South African Republic, The current evermore eating itself southwards..... this time revealing past secrets buried beneath the sands decades ago......

Turns out the Alexkor mine back in the day was in the habit of digging trenches next to the river and dumping their old trucks and dozers into them to help keep the river at bay..... long since forgotten , these rusted mammoths have been exposed, smack bang in the middle of a protected RAMSAR site.....

Somebody on that side of the river is going to have to cough up to have this bit of history removed.....

(Apologies for the poor quality of snaps)

Applause to you Michael for sharing . many years ago I heard that Alex is keeping the southern side of the river in line , by dumping "written off " machinery  in trenches next to the river .

Well, we were not very far behind them either, AT 3 plant jetty the line of bowl scrapers slowly emerge out of their sandy grave ......
