I just heard from a reliable source , that the school was informed yesterday by Namdeb (CDM), that they are to be outsourced, The company no longer wish's to have the responsibility of providing the best education in Namibia to it's employee's Family's.

the only way that this will pan out, will be the government taking over the school, standards will drop as the high paying teachers will leave for greener pastures and numbers in the school will drop rapidly.... ( that's my opinion)

It will be sad to see this happen, as this great school provided the cream of the educated talent in Namibia.

An end of an era?

Ps: anyone want to buy a school?

What a shame! >:(

That school has served us OM kids so well. Maybe we should buy it to ensre the young kids get the education they deserve?

Here's an update on the situation so far. This is from a reliable source and I met the Prof.

A professor from Dubai and his assistant(Wife) were send by the Ministry to see what the future entails for OPS. Well he reckons it looks very bright and said to me in the store today, that if they can find the finance , there is no reason why Oranjemund will not have a high school with a boarders section, in order to attract people to Omund as a centre of education. Currently OPS is attracting South African students from Alex Bay and Orange River Mines (about 12 of them) who commute here everyday for the schooling.

Another source says that the current level of education delivered at OPS is of a good standard , it needs to be improved on to meet international standards.

This was good to hear today. The only thing , is that as all you Oranjemunders know, we've been hearing the same story for the last 40 years!

I've often thought how lucky my kids are and we were as kids to be living in a small community and going to school here, they know who most of  the children in their class are and also who their teachers are. I couldn't think of having to send a five year off to preprimary to a person I'd never met before, to be amongst children she didn't know!

The downside of course is that your child's teacher gets to hear exactly what you got up to over the week-end from your child and you get to hear about what your child's teacher was up to because the town is so small!

Ha Michele - don't sweat it... between my kids and Paul - I know everything that happens at your house... ;D
(This is why I lock my kids in a wooden box in the garden over weekends) ;)
Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket?

Michele Alexander (Voden)

Are you trying to tell me you believe everything that Paul tells you?

I wondered why your kids had that stoned, square look about them on a Monday. I'm sure someone was on about child abuse somewhere in this forum! Oh yes, no need to worry - it was Paul!

I don;t even believe everything I tell you so why should you... if your kid has the surname Weidemann then you may as well already call out social services...

Warren Weidemann

Let's be honest here, we all know that I'm the one locked in the wooden box over the weekend... The hierarchy of authority in my house goes like this: My wife and the girls, the dogs, one of the cats and then me. I rule over the other cat (who is never around) and the tortoise (who may or may not be dead).
I can't seem to convince anybody that I'm a good boy now.

No really... :P

I wondered when the truth was going to come out, I'm so glad all you guys know where you stand in the household!

This story has now gone quiet, but I hear the latest uproar in the school is the new paint job that the school is currently undergoing..... gone is the standard white and blue....and in with the beige, tans and browns..... I hear some old stalwarts at the school do not approve of the new colours.... I personally do...kinda blends in with the desert.....

Is it still Stephanie who's going nuts with the vibrant colours?  Is Alan still GM or who now?

Michael Alexander

Nope, Nope.... Stephanie and Alan left a few years back.... Chris Sivertsen is the GM now, married to Jenny......

I heard that the reason for going with the colours, was due to them being able to get that particular colour AT a discount price.......
