It just irks me that Oranjemund has been spared from all the power outages in SA at this stage, but when you drive around town, there are still idiots that don''t do there parts and have there yards all still lit up with Xmas lights..... nobody here seems interested i doing their bit to cutback.... The mine should appoint an inspector to go around  and check up on these people.... on the other hand the mine still has all the Xmas lights blazing all over town at night also....

I say appoint ourself as an official monitor of unreasonable power use, and go round issuing fines, to sociably irresponsible inhabitants, that includes going round to the GM and placing the fine on his desk, for the town lights.

Thats  the prob ... people  should  have started being charged for electricity and water years on a slowly increasing  basis years ago ... People dont appreciate the value of something they get for nothing  ... plain and simple ...  I would love to know what the cash strapped  Namdebs domestic monthly electricity  bill is per month ... ???

Wonder what the savings for the mine would be if they had installed those solar geysers in town?

Michael ,, in a place like OM  with lots of sun ,,  a  drop of  25   - 40 % off  a domestic  usage bill .. I installed  mine  ,, but  have the backup timer for  elecrical heating  set generously  so  savings are in the region of  20 - 35 % .. fact  is  even on a  semi sun day  , water  preheated to  lets  say  35 - 40 deg  takes less energy to get to  60 deg ... on  summer days the water  exiting thats  entirely heated by sun  is  almost scalding hot ...
