My Other Best Friend Just Died!

It's a bad evening, as My Other Best Friend just died about 40 minutes ago..... Dollar , my dog and the only other male in the House died from a heart attack...... I noticed something was up when we were down at the beach on the weekend.... he just froze in his tracks, looked down, and seemed to be on pause for a few minutes... then he went back to normal...the vet reckons that could have been a minor heart attack at the time...... He was an old dog at the good age of 11.... Born in Swellendam, Cape Province in 1997..... he emigrated with his sister, the late and goofy Sasha, to Namibia, where they both had a great, naughty life...... He would often come and wake me up if I overslept..... we would often sing/howl together....... and we have even been known to braaaaaai together......

I'll miss my friend......

Mike, sorry to hear about your buddy. I had a cat in O'mund that I took back to France with me when we left. He was just the greatest and lived to be 18. I still think of him and the joys he brought me. My advice, get another dog. It won't replace the one you've just lost, but you'll learn to love it too and it will bring you so much joy.  e154

Well  Dollar  has  gone  of  to  the  big  kennel in  the sky ..  yes   Mike  its like  losing  a  child and  a friend all  in  one ...   and  yes  because  we  live  longer  we  go  through  the  same   scenario many times in our lives ..   but  that  never  stops  us  from  loving   over  and over ,  and  ultimately   with  time  another  child and friend  all  rolled  into  one  happens  upon  our life   ..   keep  the good  memories  in your  heart    ...  My thoughts are  with  you  Michael ...

Mike, a big furry hug to you, Michelle & your girls on your loss - as an animal lover, it always warms my heart to know a dog/cat has had a good life filled with love & joy with a loving family - they give so much, expecting so little in return.  Dollar was a lucky pooch to have lived his life with you guys. Remember and honour him with all the happy times you shared - he'll be watching over you always.

Sorry Mike, feeling sad now too. Funny thing is, we are actually crying for ourselves, your dog is happy where he is. We cry for the times we had and the times we can't have any more. I agree with Patricia, best thing you can do in Dollar's memory, is get another one as soon as possible. Helps take your mind off the hurt and keeps you busy trying to house-train him. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats in town with us and 1 dog and 1 cat on the farm. Had to leave our dog and cat on the farm because they had grown up there and were used to the wide open spaces. Brought my old, old staffi/pug called Goofy and son's bloody naughty jack russell called pilot, to town, as well as a totally black cat (Daxx) and a snow white cat (Tipsy) with us. The dog on the farm is a Weimeraner, they are those grey dogs born with blue eyes that turn amber. I can highly recommend one if you have the space. Sandy is a fantastic dog. She loves children but at the same time is an excellent watch dog, has an enormous bark and very awake. Clever too. All the dogs loved the doghouse closest to our back door and if one of the other dogs were in it, Sandy would run into the shed and bark like mad until they came running, then she would sprint back to get into the doghouse by the door. The foreman and his wife can't have kids, so they have a zoo on the farm to which our Sandy and Bronwyn have been lovingly added. My husband says if he has to come back to earth again, he wants to come back as one of my cats. They are spoilt and get more attention than him. Daxx is my PC black child who gets to sleep on my chest whenever I sit and he purrs like a tractor with the timing out. I believe if animals don't have souls then neither do we. My animals have more character than some people I've met. Let us know if you get a new addition to the family.
