The car and bakkies are just ordinary vehicles.

The XT is something different - got a little too much power in the throttle for me now (getting scared whilst I 'mature', but I used to do a lot of off-road biking in my younger years with a load of friends) - I only drive it on the farm and then also at a max of about 50km/h.

The tractors are nothing special - they drive sort of just like a car.  Same goes for the lorry  -  only problem is that it does'nt have power steering -  what a job!  But I only use the lorry when I really have to (no licence for it - you see).

No big deal  -  but I am thinking of buying myself a quad bike and let the kids and the hubby do the fall thing on the XT!  (ha ha ha)  Currently the XT is on the crutch list - waiting for some or other part that has to be replaced - lucky for the bike that I am not the mechanic!

To add to this - the most "dare-devil" thing I ever rode was to sit on a piece of conveyer belt  (a contraption some or other bloke made - kinda like a sand board you sit on with a rope handle to hold on to when you slide down the dunes - only this thing was made from conveyer belt) that was towed behind a bakkie on the donkey cart road right next to the gravel road between Dibeng and Sonstraal.  Those guys don't take no hostages  -  they download you at a helluva speed.  I scored the highest points for the "best" fall.  Two other guys got off for the worse -  one broke his anckle and the other one his collarbone.  To my embarresment another ou toppie stopped to see what we were up to.  Got out his bakkie and then flew off at me that I had to remember that I was a grown woman with kids and that it's not fitting for a woman of my age to "play" like that anymore.  Wow, ......  not play anymore my a.....

The other manner for racing transportation was the luggage trolleys of the Bloemfontein Hotel.  We had a ralley in the middle of the road  -  me standing upstraight on the trolley with a balancing act like you've never seen before, and a guy pushing/running down the road.  Two more trolleys were in the race.  The "Bell-boy" working at the hotel was in a state.  That was not what made us scramble  -------  the Blitspatrollie guys who came flying down the road with blue lights and sirens were the spoil sports.  Said we were a danger to ourselves and we were restricting the flow of traffic.  I tried to argue with them and to convince them that there was hardly any cars around at 3am, but they were just lenient enough to let us finish the last lap.  That was back in 1995 - during the Rugby World Cup season - the English and Japanese teams were also staying in the hotel then.

Also did some biking, had a KL125 on/off road. Thing was so high, I couldn't touch the ground, was petrified I would stall at a robot and have to put the bike on its side stand and stand on the bike to kick start it. First husband, Alec Green and I rode from Nelspruit to visit my brother Dave in Vanderbijlpark, each on a KL125. By the time we got there, my kidneys were ready to jump out my body and then when still had to ride back to Nelspruit a day later. Nice memories to pass on to my children. My eldest son is a keen offroad biker. Inherited that from his father. His father raced Moto-X and enduros, even did the Trans-Namib, with me as pit crew, came second in the 200cc class.  We also have a Honda 4 wheeler and a kawasaki 4 wheeler on the farm. My best time on the farm was taking Jarren, when he was a toddler,on the 4 wheeler with the dogs running next to us, to see the sheep and the cattle in the kraal. Wilhelm wanted to teach me to drive the truck but I decided not , worried he would be sending me with loads of wheat etc up and down to the co-op.

Diana, small but tough. The weird thing is you have this picture of me in your head and when you see me, you are going to feel so weird speaking to this old woman. Had the same feeling when Mark visited me, expected my old Markie and then this total stranger was in his place, the two just didn't match up.

Yep! Yep!... Left the Bakkie in the garage today, as I no longer have a dog to put in it and take to the beach anymore...   :emot78:
