Is'nt there anyway of testing for Scoline apnoea, before you use it on a victim?

@ Michael - You can test for the presence of the "choline esterase" enzyme and the likes, but it's seldom done.  Don't know why - probably expensive or difficult or takes too long. There's often a familial tendency, so if someone in your family had such a reaction, the anesthetist can play it safe by using a different form of medication.  As far as I know though, they're not so effective, and I've heard of reactions with the others as well.  So, I guess you'll never know before the time.

It's going to be an interesting afternoon.  Just hope it will be an exciting game.  According to Die Burger this morning, they reckon the ref will be hard on the whistle, especially in rucks and mauls regarding offside, diving over the ball, preventing the opposition to get to the ball, and using hands when on the ground.  Just hope it's not just all penalties and no running rugby!

@ Michael - I spoke to the anesthetist in theater this morning regarding the test for scoline apnoea.  He said it's probably too costly and will indeed take more time.  Also unnecessary pain to the patient - you will need muscle tissue in stead of blood to make a positive diagnosis.  Apparently there's 2 kinds - one with slight delay in reversal (takes 30 min's instead of 10 minutes) due to recessive gene combination, or a dominant gene form where it takes up to 4 hours to reverse the drug in the body.
I think I'll just put my trust in the doctor and anesthetist, rather than having pieces of muscles taken to make sure!!!!

2nd rate Welsh side - pity for the six nations champions.  Not a great game but Jean de Villers' try a beauty.  No matter - we won so let's be proud of that in a country wallowing in misery economically.
