Yes this is the place. I love it.

When I first went their years ago I thought it is just so like Cape Town in terms of fauna, topography and climate. Well it is.

A scene from the Robert De Niro movie, "Ronin" was filmed down at the Villefranche harbour front. The scene is  where he asks his old CIA buddy to locate (by triangulating the signal) a cellphone.

See the attached photo of the actual location! Michael Caine also shot a scene in one of his movies at the same spot.

Must agree with Robert. There are many places along the Mediteranian coust that remind me of the Southern Cape. Nice athmosphere.

@Michael - I can't recall but I do now for sure that the movie was shot in and around Beaulieu-sur-mer two towns along the road toward Monaco.

Below are some photos from Beaulieu-sur-mer. Very chic town. One is of the public toilettes outside the church at Beaulieu where a friend was holding her art exhibition. The chapel in which she displayed her work was over 900 years old. I wanted to get the toilette into the picture because I am certain it is the swankiest and best kept pissoir you will ever see or use!

The palms with lights just proves how chic the area is! And the 3rd picture is a street scene at Beaulieu a couple of days before Christmas near the market.

@Jeremy - will have to do some investigation into the effect magnets will have. I can't understand how they would ionise the fuel. However - I do have the best source for this type of information in the shape of my brother-in-law, a scientist lecturer at Adelaide University who just happens to be involved in a project involving magnets and energy storage.

I'll let you know the response.

@ Michael - Scoundrels was also shot at the Royal on Cap St Jean Ferrat. This is the official name for Cap Ferrat

Ferrat is a peninsula that juts out to sea from Villefranche and forms the bay into which ocean liners drop anchor. During summer breaks at Villefranche, we use the 1st 'strand' on Ferrat at the end of the promenade out of Villefranche.

The final photo is a view of Villefranche from Cap Ferrat. Evening promenades around the bay toward Ferrat are traditional and a nice way to end off a day. The Ronin scene was shot outside the Welcom Hotel which is the larger structure behind the large single masted blue yacht. At extrem left of the photo is the Citadel - a fort that protected the town and country from invading Moors etc.

Jeremy, this one is definately busted. It started out as an Urban Myth quite a few years ago, and somebody seized the opportunity to make a quick buck.

The dead give-away on the website is "this system works on Neodymium Super Conductor Magnets".   Huhh?

The obvious problem is trying to get their "super conductor" magnets to -273 degrees celsius.
