Diana Rudd (Boehme)

Gladys Young (Grigg) also lived in one of these houses in 11th Ave when she was married to Nic Venter back in the late 60's. Sort of diagnal(sp) from the Austins.
Will ask her if she has photo's from back then. A sensitive question here ...who where the two brothers that passed away in a car accident? Also Rumbles. Gerda?

I got around.

That was the Woest Brothers ,, the one  had  had polio  so was confined to a wheelchair ( Willie  if I recall correctly ) ,,, that did not stop his zest for life .. overcoming  his disability   he  was a star  in his wheelchair  doing  doughnuts  and wheelies and swirling around  .. If I remember  correctly there was a  not so nice bit about the accident ,, apparently  they  as they were lying in the  wrecked car  dead or dying , some lowlife stopped and  robbed them  and carried  on  his way ... not nice ..
To see  sometimes  requires that you  first believe .

Yes they were connected to Rumbels. They were Lucas and Henry. Henry was in the wheelchair. The other brother was Willie and they also had a sister called Margaret. They are burried in a double grave in the old secttion... i rember their funeral very well.

If I remember correctly Willie was married to Riekie Robinson. The last time I saw them they were living in Secunda. For some reason I seem to think that I heard Willie has also died since then. Not sure at all if this is correct.

Hi Stephanie please tell us more about your early days in Kolmanskop.

Oi Leon, I was a bit young then. About 2 years. The only memories I have are the ones I heard the grown ups talking about. One thing I do remember very clearly is that the houseman who worked for us, Jonas, moved to Oranjemund with us and he worked for my folks till they retired. So he did not only help my mom to take care of us kids but my kids also had the privlege to know him. He spoiled them rotten.
Oh yes and my Mom use to tell about the great parties they had there.
On a Friday or Saturday evening if there was a knock on your door followed by a tin of floor polish rolling in, you had a choice. Keep the polish and in that way saying "ok, we can party in my house", or roll the tin back if you do not feel up to it.
I really need to get hold of the photos of those years and also of the wooden house in Oranjemund, but have no idea when that will happen.

Thanks for that Stephanie.
Are any of your parents alive still.
Wish we  could get a first hand account from someone still alive that remembers Kolmanskop well Gunther Machts is too far away from me to visit a Mrs Resche is also too far away.

The last house pic looks like it should be somewhere in the Swamps of Mississippi and not in the middle of the desert....

Just my 2 cents...
