Here in Aus we pay about $1.80/$1.85 per litre for diesel.  Thats about R13.50-R14.00 per litre.

They reckon it will go up to $2.00 per litre within the next month or so.

The crazy thing is that the price of diesel is about 20-25 cents more than petrol.  No-one can explain why.

We have a 12.5% GST and a fuel excise of about 38.1 cents per litre - so pay about 60 cents just in taxes.  Not a bad revenue earner for the governement.

I guess it could be worse.

No problem. Forgiven and forgotten. I must hold the record for the most  thumper received on this forum. I tend to have a "foot in mouth" moment every now and then, but that's the way I am.

The demand for diesel is currently higher than petrol, with all the trucks on the road and in ZA the number of gensets that have been sold.....

Malcolm....give me two minutes then read your PM....

Diesel is still the way to go. I have a 1.3l petrol car and a 1.9l diesel car. The petrol car has a larger tank than the diesel car and gets me 600km in town conditions. The diesel car gets me 900km per tank under the same conditions. Even with diesel being R1 more than petrol, it remains the better choice.

Malcolm Bertoni

I'm in Hobart where the prices are a little more than the mainland.

I guess that a diesel is more fuel efficient than a petrol but here diesel cars are about 10% more expensive. . . .

Cant win them all.

... and diesel cars cost less to service...and they keep on running.......

It's interesting but almost all the diesel car are imported - very little local maufacturers make diesel cars.  Very big in Europe.
